In 2011 the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture introduced a new Symbol shown above. The USDA Food icon is a food plate, "My Plate". The Food Pyramid we used before is gone. This new image as seen on this page is divided into five very colorful segments. Vegetables and Fruits take up one half, while Grains and Proteins cover the other. The smallest portion represents dairy products. Note that the 2 largest wedges are the Vegetables and Grains so we should try to eat more of that.
I like this new pictogram. It's colorful, easier to follow and comprehend. It'll be easier to introduce in schools and nutrition programs. I Love it!
