WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY AND OTHER METHODS

WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY

Weight Loss Surgery, also known as Bariatric Surgery is Big business these days! It is normally recommended for obese people with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 35 and above, but you will find people of all sizes seeking weight loss surgery, which can be very dangerous. In the U.S. Gastric Bypass is the most commonly performed weight loss operation. There are some Countries, especially in Asia where it is offered cheap and people travel far to get these cheaper services. Bariatric Surgery is very popular in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Czech Republic, Argentina, Costa Rica, India, Spain, Poland, Belgium, Malaysia, Thailand, and South Africa. It is now very common for both women and men to get a 'Nip and Tuck' here and there it is no longer just about the Women.

GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY

Gastric Bypass is the most popular of all weight loss surgery procedures. It is a process where the stomach is sectioned into 2 parts, a small stomach pocket and a much larger one. A portion of the small intestine is then linked to the smaller stomach pocket, forcing food to bypass part of the small intestine. This controls food intake, you feel full and eat less. This is the most popular of all Weight loss surgeries. Celebrities or well known people who have had successful Gastric Bypass surgery include: Sharon Osbourne, Star Jones, Al Roker, Roseanne Barr, Randy Jackson, Carnie Wilson, the late DJ AM, and Diego Maradona.

VERTICAL BANDED GASTROPLASTY/ MASON PROCEDURE/ STOMACH STAPLING

Vertical Banded Gastroplasty also known as the Mason Procedure is simply a Stomach Stapling method where a section of the stomach is permanently stapled to create a small pocket.

ADJUSTABLE GASTRIC BAND

Adjustable Gastric Band is more commonly referred to as Lap Band Surgery, e.g. REALIZE Band, is a procedure that forces a small amount of food to be eaten. The silicon band binds the top part of the stomach, dividing the stomach into a small top pocket, and a larger bottom part of stomach. The smaller pocket can only keep a very very small amount of food so you feel full quickly and longer. Caroline Manzo of Real Housewives of New Jersey had this done.

SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY

Sleeve Gastrectomy is a procedure where a narrow vertical sleeve of the stomach is formed by stapling. The remaining part of the stomach is surgically removed so the amount of food you can eat at a time is drastically reduced.

INTRAGASTRIC GASTRIC BALLON/GASTRIC BALLON

Intragastric Balloon (Gastric Balloon) is a procedure where a deflated balloon is put into the stomach, and then filled up. The balloon should only stay in the stomach for 6 months. This method is not very popular and can be dangerous.

IMPLANTABLE GASTRIC STIMULATION

Implantable Gastric Stimulation is a less popular procedure where a small gadget is attached to the outermost layer of the stomach. This device emits electrical currents that confuse the brain into thinking that you are full.

COLON CLEANSING

Colon cleansing or Colonics removes the body's waste matter and nonspecific toxins from the colon and intestinal tract. This is done by injecting water or other liquids into the colon via the rectum or by taking laxatives.
